September Goal: Capsule Wardrobe

I know I've shared this before but my closet it OUT OF CONTROL. There are clothes everywhere, half of them don't fit, many of them are out of style and the rest are just blah. Between getting pregnant, being pregnant and having a baby, it has been ages since I've bought quality clothing.

I'm 100% in a style rut and I need to get out of it. I think I've become one of those moms... you know, the ones who wear workout clothes all day long and has messy hair. I am one of those people and I don't like it. So, I'm going to make changes.

Step one is cleaning out my closet. I going to bag up those maternity clothes, donate the boxy Forever 21 blouses, stretched out jeans and too long tanks. I need to be ruthless or the clutter is going to drag me down.

Step two is creating a capsule wardrobe. I've accepted that I'm going to need to go shopping (the horror!) but I need to get my ducks in a row before I attack the mall. I need to figure out what really works with my life as a stay at home mom, what items I only need one or two of and what items I absolutely don't need in my closet. My goal with shopping is to go for quality over quantity. There is no point in buying something cheap if it doesn't fit well.

Capsule wardrobes include 37 article of clothing / shoes. That is IT! I'm not going to count workout clothes, pyjamas and undergarments but everything else is fair game. You then challenge yourself to create outfits using these items and these items only. I think this will be a challenge but one that I'm looking forward to... especially since I have nine black tank tops in my drawer at the moment and only like one. I told you, I need a serious closet overhaul.

Step three is putting an effort back into my appearance. Just because I'm home with a baby, that doesn't mean that I have to live in Lululemon. I need to make myself a priority and my hope is that the capsule wardrobe will make that easier.

Any must-haves that I should include in my wardrobe? This will just take me through the fall, I'll revamp everything once winter hits.

  1. I tried to comment from my phone earlier but it didn't work I guess! I can't wait to see what you do here - my SAHM wardrobe is the pits - I wear jean shorts and a tank that covers my post-partum belly pretty much every day. I am looking forward to the fall - at least I can put pants into my wardrobe! The only think I'd consider (but may not be your style) is some kind of comfy cardigan type thingy that you can throw on top of anything. Good luck!
